Footscray West Writers Fest will return in April 2027 with a weekend of readings, talks, performance and workshops taking up residence in West Footscray’s bars, library, restaurants, drill hall and footy oval.

Our 2027 theme is The Brave & The Curious, dedicated to the storytellers, writers and thinkers who ask hard questions and answer them honestly. Who put the truth on the page when it might be easier not to. Who speak up when others won’t. Who find new ways to show us the world as they see it.

Choosing to write, to think, to wonder, is its own kind of courage. To commit to a life of words when the economics make it brutally hard is an act of bravery. And brave voices need a curious audience who show up with an open mind and a willingness to listen.
